Train Services

Stamford station opened in 1848 and remains one of the finest stone-built stations in the country, with its Tudor-style frontage listed and carefully maintained. It is around a five-minute walk from Red Lion Square and the High Street, making the train an easy way to arrive for a day out in the town.

All services are operated by East Midlands Railway along the Birmingham to Peterborough route, with trains typically running about once an hour in each direction from early morning until late evening, and a reduced service on Sundays.

Where you can travel

Heading east, trains run to Peterborough in around 15 minutes, where you can connect onto the East Coast Main Line for fast services to London King's Cross, Cambridge, Doncaster, York and Edinburgh.

Heading west, trains call at Oakham, Melton Mowbray and Leicester, continuing towards Nuneaton and Birmingham New Street for connections across the Midlands, the North West and Wales.

Tickets and times

Tickets can be bought from the ticket office at the station during staffed hours, from the self-service ticket machine on the platform, or in advance online and through the East Midlands Railway app. Advance fares are usually the cheapest option for longer journeys, and railcards can be applied when booking.

Station facilities

The station has a ticket office, waiting shelters, seating, cycle parking and a small car park. Step-free access is available to the Peterborough-bound platform, with a footbridge between platforms; passengers needing assistance should contact East Midlands Railway in advance to arrange help with their journey.

Taxis are usually available outside the station, and the town centre, bus station on St Peter's Hill and the main car parks are all within easy walking distance.
